Cricket is a game that had its beginnings in England. As the British Empire broadened its suzerainty over domains across the world, cricket started to be played in the states of England as well. Today, cricket is a worldwide game that is played in somewhere in the range of 16 countries across the globe. Cricket is normally nicknamed a 'man of his word's down' however at first, before cricket got mainstream, it was a game that was played prevalently by ladies and kids in the country where it began.
Refined man's Game?
Many feel that the term 'refined man's down' is a misnomer for cricket. What with the Aussies getting racial and sledging non-white players and players, when all is said in done, reviling umpires, cricket is quick tumbling from its lifted up platform of being a game just for considerate and edified men of their word. Yet at the same time, the mark 'refined man's down' suits cricket better compared to it suits football, which, as per many, is the world's generally dearest 'hoodlums' game'. (Football, obviously, has never under any circumstance been known as a 'courteous fellow's down'.) Besides, with an ever increasing number of ladies picking cricket as their profession, it would be emphatically misogynist to say that cricket is a 'man of his word's down'.
